Helping the Yate and Chipping Sodbury Foodbank this Christmas

Most of us look forward to Christmas but if, like one in five people, you are living below the poverty line, it can be a fraught and stressful time.

Worrying about putting food on the table, already a daily occurrence for many, is heightened at this time of year which is why Wards Solicitors' Yate office wanted to help its local Trussell Trust foodbank.

Members of staff brought in non-perishable and in-date food, toiletries and festive treats to give to individuals and families who find themselves struggling for a whole host of reasons including redundancy, illness, low income and unexpected bills.

A busy Christmas

Last December, The Trussell Trust - which runs 428 foodbanks across the UK - provided 159,388 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis with 65,622 of these going to children. Everything handed out came from voluntary donations.

This is a ten per cent increase on the previous year and a figure that is sadly expected to be exceeded this year.

Over the last year, The Trussell Trust's Yate and Chipping Sodbury Foodbank has already helped more than 2000 people in crisis, providing three-day emergency food supplies to those referred to the charity.
