Just days after England beat New Zealand to take the Cricket World Cup, history on a smaller scale was being made in a leafy corner of Henleaze.

For the first time ever, our annual friendly head-to-head match against Christie & Co was held at the Bristol YMCA Cricket Club. Wards Solicitors is the club's main sponsor for 2019.

The sun shone throughout an exciting match and players and supporters alike enjoyed the historic setting where, back in 1946, nearly 4,000 spectators packed into the tiny ground to see one of England and Gloucestershire's finest ever batsmen, Wally Hammond, make an appearance.

And although Christie's won the match and retained the trophy, a fantastic evening was had by all, including enjoying a post-match barbeque in the evening sunshine.

Wards Solicitors' Partner Tom Scoffham, also manager of our nearby Henleaze office, said: "Thank you to the Wards Solicitors' team for a fantastic effort in a delightful setting. And to Christie & Co for an impressive display of cricketing skills. It really was a night to remember."
