Raising funds for our local NHS hospitals!
This April, a group of intrepid Wards staff will be taking the big leap – raising money for the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity by abseiling down the side of the iconic Bristol Children’s Hospital building!
Up to 10 staff from Wards will be braving the challenge as they help to raise money to support the hospital charity, with a team target of £1800.

The Big Bristol Abseil is one of the biggest adrenaline events in the city with around 100 people signing up to take part, and this year it kickstarts a huge fundraising push for the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity (formerly Above & Beyond) as it celebrates 50 years of support.
The charity helps to make a big difference to patients’ lives by funding important projects across 10 NHS hospitals in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, from the little things like providing games and arts activities for sick children to longer-term projects like transforming tired or underused wards and outside areas into healing spaces for patients. It also funds vital medical research, and world-class technologies and innovative treatments. In November 2023, a brand new, ground-breaking research facility opened at the Children’s hospital, funded by more than £700,000 raised by the charity.
Bethan Hughes, Philanthropy & Partnerships Officer at Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, said: “It’s so kind of Wards to support this year’s Big Bristol Abseil – and very brave of them to take on the challenge too!
“Their support means even more of the money raised can go towards supporting our hospitals and improving the health and happiness of the patients treated there.”
