Sizzling sun and samba at Portishead Carnival
The sounds and sights of Brazil came alive on the streets of Portishead as St Peter's Church of England Primary School rattled and rolled its way into the prizes at the town's carnival.
Staff, parents and children at the school have been working for months on their samba-themed float and swept the board to win not only the Best School and Best Walking Party award (with fantastic support from samba reggae group Batala Bristol) but also the overall Supreme Champion too.
The school's carnival team, made up of 150 adults and children, had a fantastic reception as they processed along the town's crowd-filled streets with thousands turning out to enjoy the sizzling summer sunshine.
For the third carnival running, Wards Solicitors' was delighted to sponsor the float and help the school take part in the event, which also includes a fairground, stalls and live entertainment.
Wards Solicitors' Laura Llewellyn, who works in the family law and divorce team with lawyer Mandy McCabe in the Portishead office, said: "The carnival was brilliant and St Peter's did amazingly well. Although very hot, the children, parents and staff loved every minute!"
