The night when cricket came home!

Nerves were running high – after all, winning the annual Wards v Christie & Co cricket match two years in a row has never happened before.

This year, however, the cricket gods were once more smiling on us even if the winning margin wasn’t exactly, shall we say, huge.

The Christie team scored 122 and we scored 124 in reply although the result fails to reflect the quality of our cricketers who took to the pitch with flare, flamboyance and gritty determination.

Despite a few scoreboard issues, the evening at Golden Hill Cricket Club – bathed, fittingly, in golden sunlight – went well.

With the coveted Challenge Cup now safely back in our cabinet, Captain Ian Williamson reflects: “This long-standing, friendly fixture was played with the usual grace and good humour and a great crowd thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We’re already looking forward to next year!”

Who was in the team? Ian Williamson (captain), Charlotte Huntley, Alex Rossiter, David Baynton (keeper), Angus Martin, Ed Coles, Daniel Hill, Will Williamson, Samuel Williams, Richard ‘the Clement Express’, Tom Scoffham, Super-sub/12th man, Richard Darbinian.
