Wards donate £5,000 to local Alzheimer’s Society group – Singing for the Brain
Jenny Pierce, Head of Wills, Probate & Mental Capacity at Wards Solicitors, presented a cheque for £5,000 to Sally Cavill of the Alzheimer's Society after Wards chose 'Singing for the Brain' groups as their charity of the year.
Within the Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas alone there are thousands of people with dementia. Singing for the Brain is a service provided by the Alzheimer's Society which uses singing to bring people together in a friendly and stimulating social environment. Hidden in the fun are activities which build on the well-known preserved memory for song and music in the brain. Even when many memories are hard to retrieve, music is especially easy to recall.
There are currently three Singing for the Brain groups in Bristol and a fourth is planned to open shortly in Withywood.
Jenny comments: "We set up the Wards' Centenary Fund in 2005 with the intention of having some fun whilst raising funds for local and national causes, which - in turn - will create a lasting testament to the fund-raising achievements of our staff. This year we are thrilled to be able to support such a fantastic initiative, making a real difference in our local area".
