Making a Will, helping a charity

  • 9th May 2017

At Wards Solicitors we are always more than happy to help our local hospice – and it’s good to know our clients feel the same.

This year, our annual collaboration with Weston Hospicecare’s Make a Will Week has helped bring in a record £20,215 – easily beating last year’s total of £13,320 – and it seems many people agree that this is as an incredibly practical way to help such a deserving charity.

“Great way to support our hospice”

“Another fantastic experience with Wards Solicitors,” one participant wrote. “Very professional and efficient and such a great way to support our local hospice.”

Whilst another contacted us to say: “What a marvellous idea. We have been meaning to update our Wills for many years and seeing the advert for Weston Hospicecare’s Make a Will Week, prompted us into action.”

Minimum donation

For the sixth year running, solicitors from Wards Solicitors’ Weston-Super-Mare, Worle and Clevedon offices gave up their time, free of charge, to write basic wills in exchange for a suggested minimum donation to Weston Hospicecare.

It currently costs about £4,600 a day to run the independent adult hospice serving the Weston-super-Mare area. It consists of a Day Hospice, a ten-bed In-Patient Unit, the Wellbeing Centre, a team of Hospice Community Nurse Specialists, and a Family Support Team, which includes support groups, companions, chaplaincy and bereavement teams.

Since the Make a Will Week scheme has been running, more than £78,000 has been raised for the hospice.

Partner Rebecca Parkman, who took part in a presentation (photo above) alongside fellow Wills and Probate team members Emily Moberly and Katrina Bourton said: “We are delighted with the success of this year’s Make a Will Week and proud to have supported Weston Hospicecare through this scheme since its inception.”
