Accountant: Qualified or part qualified – Central Bristol
We are looking for an Accountant who is keen to progress and develop their skills to join our friendly Accounts Team
This is a fully supported role working closely with our experienced Finance Director. The role comes with autonomy and responsibility but in a supportive, collaborative environment. We need a person who is happy to be a team member and who is flexible with the ability to provide cover for planned and unplanned absences in the Team.
This is an important role within the firm, working closely with the Finance Director, Practice Management Team and colleagues across our 13 offices. You will be responsible for ensuring the firm's financial processes operate efficiently, accurately and in accordance with the regulatory requirements of a legal practice. Working knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules is essential to assist the Finance Director in his role as the Firm’s Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration.
About the role
In this role you would assist and support the Finance Director and develop your skills in the following areas:
- Managing the firm's day-to-day accounting and financial processes.
- Supervising the Accounts Transaction Team Manager.
- Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Budget forecasting and cash-flow management.
- Monitoring income, expenditure and financial performance.
- Maintaining accurate accounting records and carrying out regular reconciliations.
- Managing purchase and sales ledger processes.
- Supporting the preparation of year-end accounts and liaising with external accountants and auditors.
- Assisting with the annual practising certificate renewals.
- Preparing and monitoring VAT and other relevant financial returns.
- Assisting with payroll and pension-related processes where required.
- Supporting the Compliance Team with the SRA Accounts Rules.
- Maintaining appropriate financial controls and procedures.
- Managing and reconciling client and office accounts.
- Providing financial information and analysis to the Managing Partner to support effective business decisions.
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, systems and efficiencies including development and uptake in the Team of IT.
- Assisting with financial projects and other ad hoc duties as required.
About you
We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware and highly accurate, with the confidence to take ownership of their responsibilities.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as an Accountant, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
- A good understanding of financial management and accounting principles.
- Experience of assisting with preparing management accounts and financial reports.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive approach and the ability to identify and resolve issues.
- A high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, accounting software and case management software (ideally Connect).
- Experience of the SRA Accounts Rules is essential.
You may be ACCA or ACA or CA qualified or part-qualified, although we would also welcome applications from experienced AAT qualified people who can demonstrate the necessary skills and knowledge.
Location and Working Hours
This is a full time position based in our Bristol office, although part time would be considered for the right applicant. Office hours are 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
