Divorce – taking some of the sting out of its tail

It is never easy. But divorce does not have to be a battlefield.

That is the message being put forward during Good Divorce Week by Resolution, the national organisation of family lawyers committed to non-confrontational divorce, separation and other family problems, as it launches its new code of practice.

Even though 42 per cent of first marriages in the UK now end in divorce, Resolution - of which all Wards Solicitors' family and divorce lawyers are members - are committed to taking the needs of the entire family into account and the best interests of any children, during the splitting-up process.

Resolution's recently revised Code of Practice promotes a constructive approach to family issues for all parties including reducing stress, listening carefully and respectfully, giving honest advice and helping to balance financial and emotional costs with the final outcome.

Good Divorce Week runs from 28 November to 2 December during which 150 Resolution members will travel to Westminster to call for no fault divorce to be introduced as well as improved rights for cohabiting couples.
