They ran, they cycled, they swam - and helped raise more than £5,000 for charity in the process.

Wards Solicitors' fielded three teams for the 2016 Colliers Bristol TRYathlon, an event which attracted 250 professionals from 52 leading local companies.

It took place at Tockington Manor School and included a 400m pool swim, a 16km rural road bike course and a 5km partial off road run. Teams were made up of three members who tackled one element each as well as individual entrants.

All the money raised went to the Wooden Spoon which helps disadvantaged and disabled children across the UK to provide everything from sensory rooms, specialist playgrounds and sports activity areas to respite, medical and community care.

The charity funds around 70 projects a year and since it was launched in 1983 has distributed in excess of £23 million, helping over 1 million young people.

In total, 12 members of staff from Wards Solicitors took part and a testing training regime certainly paid off for James Taylor who put in a cycle ride time good enough to propel him into third place within the cycle relay competitors. His team, Wards Injury Clinic, came in 12th out of 44 teams. And Jonathan Wilson, an individual entrant, came in 19th out of more than 80 in the men's race section.

Wards Injury Clinic was made up of Alison Underhill, James Taylor and Richard Green; Wards Keynsham Konquerors was Matthew Pitt, Katrina Bartlett and Ruth Coles and Wards Team 2 was Tom Bowering, Emily Moberly and Pete Livingstone, who joined the team from Edwards Vacuum in Clevedon.

Individual entries were Richard Clement, Stephanie Hill, Georgia Collier and Jonathan Wilson.

James said: "It was great to see such a strong Wards presence at this event. The rain held off and we all had an amazing day. Helping to raise such a fantastic total for Wooden Spoon was the icing on the cake."
