IWD charity event garners lots of laughs

St George’s Bristol was loud with laughter as ‘Hysterical!’, the One25 comedy night sponsored by Wards Solicitors, was in full swing. Several comedians took to the stage and even Wards’ own Laura Jakeways made a speech on behalf of Wards as a sponsor.

The event, organised by One25 for International Women’s Day for the third year in a row, was a definite success, drawing in a large audience to see the all-female line up of comedians including headliner Angela Barnes. Barnes is most known for her appearances on Mock the Week and Live at The Apollo, and can now add ‘Hysterical!’ to her long list of performances.

Expertly MC-ed by Dani Johns, local Bristol comedian and One25 ambassador, the night was in aid of One25 and the work they do in the city to support women who street sex work. They have a drop-in centre in St Pauls where the women they support can come for food, a visit to a GP, and many other forms of aid. They also have a van that volunteers take out every night to meet the women experiencing street sex work where they are, providing harm reduction kits, a warm drink or food, and a friendly face. Several people from Wards went to visit the hub at the beginning of the year and were happy to donate some gift cards to One25 to support the work they do in the community.

As the title sponsor for ‘Hysterical!’ 2026, Wards were given the opportunity for a small speech after the interval, and Partner Laura Jakeways did a fantastic job representing the firm – she even got a few laughs from the crowd!
