Swapping the office for the outdoors – staff from Wards Solicitors volunteer with Alive Activities

As part of our 120th anniversary celebrations, staff from Wards Solicitors recently swapped the office for the outdoors, spending a rewarding day volunteering with Alive Activities at one of the charity’s community allotments.

Alive is a Bristol-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of older people and those living with dementia, as well as the people that support them. Through gardening, creative sessions, and community projects, Alive promotes wellbeing, reduces isolation, and brings joy to people across the region.

The teams rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into a range of gardening tasks — from weeding and clearing paths to harvesting vegetables and preparing raised beds for winter planting. The day was part of Wards’ initiative to give back to the communities that have supported the firm over the past 120 years of business.

Everyone agreed it was a fantastic day and Alive’s work really struck a chord.  The teams said it was great to be able to contribute in a hands-on way, as well as spending the day in the fresh air and having the opportunity to meet up with colleagues from across our network of offices.

Guy Manchester, Community Allotment Officer at Alive said "I really enjoyed hosting two teams from Wards up at our dementia-friendly allotment in Bristol. Both teams were a dream to work with, getting stuck into everything I asked them to do and ensuring there was a lovely, bubbly atmosphere all through the day. We couldn’t deliver the impactful sessions we run without the support of groups like Wards. It really does make a massive difference to the lives of the many older people and people living with dementia who benefit from time spent at the allotment, and for whom we wouldn’t be able to run sessions if someone else doesn’t come and assist with all the (literally!!) heavy lifting!"
