Wards Solicitors sponsors major exhibition of Anglo-Saxon treasures in Bristol

A spectacular display of Anglo Saxon silver and gold is to go on show at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery with Wards Solicitors delighted to help bring to the city an exhibition which has already stunned visitors across the West Midlands.

Warrior Treasures: Saxon Gold from the Staffordshire Hoard features decorative fittings stripped from swords and fighting knives, almost certainly spoils of war from battles fought in the first half of the 7th century AD, with some of the exhibits never displayed before.

Pieta Greaves, Conservation Coordinator for the Staffordshire Hoard, Birmingham Museums Trust, said: "We are thrilled at this opportunity to take some of the star items of the Staffordshire Hoard 'on the road'. It is the first time some of these amazing items have been revealed after conservation, a process which has re-joined multiple fragments into never-seen-before objects."

The Staffordshire Hoard, arguably the most significant find of its kind in the UK, was discovered by a man and his metal detector in July 2009. Although broken into around 4,000 pieces, it gives an incredible insight into the possessions of an elite warrior class.

Beautifully crafted from gold, silver and garnet and decorated with a variety of semi-precious gems, the exhibits bear witness to a turbulent time in history.

More than one million people have already seen the Staffordshire Hoard across the West Midlands.

David Sheridan, Managing Partner of Wards Solicitors, said: "We are proud to help bring such an important and fascinating exhibition to Bristol and to give people a chance to view this exciting display of Anglo-Saxon treasure."

The Staffordshire Hoard is owned by Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent City Councils, and cared for on their behalf by Birmingham Museums Trust and The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, andis on show at The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery from 22 October 2016 to 23 April 2017.
