What makes a good lawyer?

This was a question we were asked recently by a prospective client looking for a solicitor.

We drafted this response to explain why, and how, Wards Solicitors can meet all your legal expectations and have shared it here as we thought it could be useful to others…

Specialist legal experts in key locations across the region

At Wards Solicitors, independent and locally owned, we have been helping clients for more than 100 years and over that time have developed a team of dedicated, specialist legal experts both for you and your business with eleven offices in key locations across the region from Bristol to Weston-super-Mare, Keynsham to Yate.

Our staff of more than 75 lawyers can provide all the strength, expertise and bespoke legal advice you need to help solve every kind of legal problem, at a location convenient to you, backed up by membership and accreditation of all the relevant legal associations as well as recommendations in the two main independent legal guides, Legal 500 and Chambers UK.

We hold the independently assessed 'Lexcel' standard of the Law Society, our overseeing professional body, which confirms we have the required management policies and processes in place and that we consistently follow them. In addition, the firm's conveyancing department has been approved by the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme certifying that it is run along 'best practice' lines.

Above and beyond this, each and every one of our lawyers works to Wards Solicitors' charter of standards which includes being polite and professional at all times, explaining in advance what costs are likely to be and looking at all correspondence on the day we get it.

In all service areas, our lawyers are recognised as some of the best in the region as a small selection of testimonials from satisfied customers here show:

  • Wills, Probate and Mental Capacity 'May we express our gratitude and thanks to Jenny Pierce for all her help and knowledgable advice over the past weeks. She made our discussions and meetings, on not the happiest of subjects, both pleasurable and enlightening. We have been absolutely delighted with the services of Wards Solicitors and the staff we've met.'
  • Accident and Injury 'Alison Underhill was very helpful, efficient and professional. The advice she gave was excellent and she didn't give up hope of a resolution. I would definitely recommend her.'
  • Building work, construction and engineering disputes 'James Murray dealt with matters very efficiently and empathetically and always answered telephone calls and queries the same day - excellent communication from him.
  • Conveyancing 'Susan Ellis and her colleagues could not have done more to help and support us to a successful completion - which was a marathon - sincere thanks.'
  • Family Law and Divorce 'Alison Bradley was fantastic throughout my case. I found her friendly, professional and she advised me appropriately when the other side was being difficult. I would therefore recommend Alison to friends, family and work colleagues.'

How we work

We are committed to resolving all problems without going to court unless it is absolutely unavoidable and pride ourselves on not only being able to explain sometimes complex legal terms and issues in plain English but on keeping you in the loop at all times and keeping stress levels down by responding to queries quickly and efficiently and making sure there are no unnecessary delays in your legal proceedings.

Our Wills, Probate and Mental Capacity team, for example, have a growing reputation for excellence and are now one of the largest in the region. The majority of its lawyers are either student or full members of Solicitors for the Elderly, a national organisation committed to providing the highest quality legal advice for older people, and many are full members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a professional association for practitioners who specialise in family inheritance and succession planning.

With a range of legal services for both private and business clients, Wards Solicitors has a huge breadth of expertise covering everything from equine law to probate disputes as well as business employment and disputes, commercial services and property. We also have a notary public, Michael Gupwell, acting for both private and commercial clients.
