There were mermaids and jellyfish, crabs, sharks and lobsters not to mention a couple of octopus and a piranha - all out in force as St Peter's Church of England Primary School once again brought its energy and enthusiasm to the Portishead Carnival.

For the second year running, the school stole the show winning the Supreme Overall Champion and Best School awards as well as coming second in the best walking party category.

The school's staff and children, as well as their families and carers, had all worked hard for months to bring their spectacular float, complete with giant killer whale and intricate costumes, to fruition for the big day.

The theme, Commotion in the Ocean, was inspired by the school's liaison with Turn the Tide Portishead, a group of committed volunteers working hard to reduce plastic pollution on the town's beaches and public spaces and encourage recycling.

It is the fourth year running that Wards Solicitors has sponsored St Peter's involvement in the carnival which also includes a fairground, stalls and live entertainment.

Wards Solicitors' Laura Llewellyn, who works in the family law and divorce team with partner Mandy McCabe in the Portishead office, said: "As usual, St Peter's threw its heart and soul into getting behind our local carnival and pulled off a fantastic array of fishy costumes and an eye catching float. A huge well done to everyone involved."
