Services For You

The ‘pleura’ is the name given the membrane that lines the lungs.  ‘Pleural thickening’ happens when the pleura becomes scarred and thickens.  In mild cases, there may be few or no symptoms.  However, as the condition progresses, pleural thickening causes difficulty breathing, causes chest pain and breathlessness.

Pleural thickening cannot be cured and can be extremely debilitating, although treatments may ease some of the symptoms.

As with other asbestos-related illnesses, symptoms often start decades after the asbestos exposure.
